The protocol for event reviews varies greatly from publication
to publication. Some require an interview with the artist,
before the show. Some prefer a highly personal, experiential
piece.

Recording Academy Adds Best Electronic/Dance Music Album
Members of the dance music community gathered on both coasts to celebrate the introduction of the newest Grammy category – Best Electronic/Dance Music Album.
Neil Portnow, President of the 20,000 member Academy ,
congratulated the party-goers on a successful campaign to
enter the ranks of Academy voters.
DJ and Academy member Paul Oakenfold was thrilled. “People
in the know have realized that we need this category and
it's great that the Grammys have finally recognized it.”
Others anticipate a bumpy beginning. Most Academy voters
aren't very familiar with the genre. Former Grammy nominee
Jason Bentley said, “if something wins that doesn't deserve
it, that doesn't truly represent the electronic subculture,
it would be mortifying to me.” He has reason to fear: who
can forget the boos when Jethro Tull won the first “Heavy
Metal” Grammy?
Whatever the problems, Grammy's stamp of approval is a
clear sign that dance music has graduated from the underground.
“This is our legacy,” Bentley said, “a way for us to leave
our fingerprints on the mainstream.” Neil Portnow believes
the worries can wait. “This is a night to celebrate,” he
said with a smile.
